The Drowsy Chaperone opened on Broadway in 2006 and is a parody of American musical comedies of the 1920s. The Man in Chair listens to a recording of the fictional 1928 hit, The Drowsy Chaperone. As he plays the record, the show comes to life onstage. Characters appear in his dingy apartment, and it is transformed into an impressive set with sparkling furniture, painted backdrops, and glitzy costumes.
