Boone County Judge Facing Charges Resigns from Office, Court Sets Meeting to Name Replacement

The Boone County Quorum Court will have a new leader after the current judge steps down amid charges brought against him during a recent investigation.

According to a release from the Boone County Judge's Office, a special meeting of the Quorum Court will be held at 6:00 pm April 9 at the Boone County Office of Emergency Management Building on Prospect Ave in Harrison.

Robert Hathaway, who was set to wrap-up 12-year-tenure as Boone County Judge at the end of the year, submitted his resignation after he was charged with Abuse of Office and Reporting by Public Employee for Loss of Public Funds. Hathaway is accused of being aware of the misuse of a county credit card by Daniel Bolen, the former director of Boone County Office of Emergency Management, but not doing anything about it or reporting it as required by law. Hathaway was arrested on February 27 and released after posting bail. He has pled Not Guilty to the Charges during a recent court session.

According to the Boone County Release, the Quorum Court will consider a Resolution at the April 9 meeting to formally declare a vacancy of the officer then will consider appointing a person to fill his term for the remainder of the year. Individuals interested in applying for the position must do so by next Wednesday April 1.

Hathaway, who had previously decided not to run for another term in office, was set to be replaced at the end of the year by the winner of the Primary Election. The runoff on Tuesday has current Assistant Judge Tyler Gentry going up against Bobby Woods to take over as County Judge on January 1.
