As Hurricane Helene heads to a landfall today on the Gulf Coast, weather forecasters continue to analyze potential impacts once the storm turns west towards Arkansas and Missouri.
Current forecast trends from the National Weather Service and Ozarks First indicate minimal precipitation impact. Areas east of Highway 65 in the central and eastern Lakes Region may see as high as a half inch of rainfall Friday into Saturday while portions of the western Lakes Region may not see any rain at all. Cloudy skies and some higher winds will be possible with the storm remnants to be out of the region by Sunday.
Portions of eastern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri could see heavy rainfall as well as areas of Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
