A project that has seen several delays has now been completed reopening a highway in Barry County.
The Missouri Department of Transportation announces Tuesday afternoon that the Highway 248 Bridge over Flat Creek just west of Highway 37 has officially opened to traffic.
That section of 248 had closed in March to replace a one-lane bridge that had been in use for over 90 years. The new two-lane structure is 70 feet longer, eight feed wider, and seven feet higher than the previous structure. In addition, the contractor added permanent pavement markings and installed guardrail and object markers at either end of the bridge according to the release.
Delays due to supply chain issues and weather pushed the original completion date from July to August, then from August to the early part of October. This opening beats the rescheduled date by over a week
The total cost of the project was $3.7 million and was constructed by Louis-Company LLC of Grain Valley.
