SPRINGFIELD, MO. – People across the area continue to receive a flood of scam texts claiming to be from toll road authorities collecting outstanding fees.
While people nationwide have reported the spam messages in recent months, the individuals behind the scheme seem to be ramping up their efforts, prompting local and federal agencies to issue warnings to consumers. MoDOT has even placed an alert on its website, reminding people that the texts are not from that agency.
While Missouri doesn’t have toll roads, confusion has become an issue for some Missourians who have recently traveled to other states with toll roads.
Authorities aren’t sure where these are coming from and haven’t been able to shut it down.
