Carl William Bushfield July 14, 1930 - July 18, 2022

Carl William Bushfield, 93, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House.

Carl was born July 14, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana at Coleman Hospital, to Freeman Oral and Alta Marie Pomeroy Bushfield.  He celebrated his 92nd birthday with a cherry pie, his favorite.  In 1939 or 1940, the family moved to Silver City, New Mexico, where he attended Silver City High School.  Carl did not graduate from high school because he was determined to enter the military at the age of 16, entering the United States Army after his father signed for him in 1946.  He would later get his GED in 1948, and remained in the Army until 1949.  In 1951, he joined the United States Navy, serving until 1955.  In 1957, he joined the United States Air Force and served until 1961.  He rejoined the Air Force in 1962, retiring in 1970. He married Jane Perkins, October 18, 1964, while stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  During the Vietnam War, he served in Thailand, from 1967-1968 working with radio communications.  Upon reentry to the United States, he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana from December 1968 to 1970, where he was discharged.  He and Jane returned to Albuquerque, and he began a new career at UNM as an electronics technician.  He and Jane began their camping and RV life and traveled to many states.  He retired from UNM in 1993 and moved to Arkansas in 1994, their favorite state from RVing.  They joined Roadrunner RV Club and kept up their travels.  They became members of United Methodist Church in Harrison, and Carl got involved in many local organizations.  He volunteered with Hospice of the Hills Hospice House, was a board member of Krooked Kreek Fire Department and Krooked Kreek Water Association.  He was a member of Axillary Association of North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.  He was active in volunteering until Covid made him stay home.  Carl entered assisted living at Countryside Assisted Living in Harrison on June 3 and entered the Hospice House July 11th and passed into eternity on July 18.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his parents; sister, Jerri Bingle; cousin, Dorothy Bushfield; and second cousin, Terry Haskins. 

Carl is survived by four stepdaughters, Judy Meade of Goshen, Indiana, Pam Annen of Raytown, Missouri, Jeannie Perkins of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Betty Jo Marmon, Belen, New Mexico; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three second cousins, Vicki Zdanowski, Nanette Hixon, Dean Haskins.  

There will be a family conducted memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Harrison.   Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
