Obituary for Phyllis Ruth Love Cowan of Harrison.

Phyllis Ruth Love Cowan, 85, of Harrison, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Hillcrest Home in Harrison. 

She was born March 6, 1936, at West Plains, Missouri to Willard Walter and Evelyn Lucille Greer Love.  She was a 1958 graduate of Kansas State University with a BSE in Home Economics.  While attending college, she met Louis Allan Cowan, a music major, and the couple were married on June 6, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas. The Cowans moved to Harrison in 1971, and Phyllis began teaching home economics at the Harrison Junior High School. She was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award in 1988.  Phyllis was devoted to teaching home economics to youth in Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas for 29 years.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher sorority and also a member of  Eagle Heights Baptist Church. She was a gifted pianist and organist, incredible cook and talented seamstress. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Robert Love. 

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Janelle and Mark Waddell of Harrison, Lori and Steve Cox of Harrison, and Carol and Bret Bricker of Van Buren; four grandchildren, Sarah Waddell of Centerton, Courtney Cox of Fayetteville, Erik Bricker and his fiancée, Ashley Barnes, of Tallahassee, Florida, and Sean Bricker of Tallahassee; a brother, Wilbur Love of Baltimore, Maryland; and other relatives and friends. 

The funeral for Mrs. Cowan will be family only, officiated by the Rev. Kennith Stacy.  She will be buried in Maplewood Cemetery next to her husband.   Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel. 

Active pallbearers will be Mark Waddell, Steve Cox, Bret Bricker, Erik Bricker, and Sean Bricker.  Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah Waddell, Courtney Cox, and Ashley Barnes. 

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois  60601.
