Branson, Missouri - On July 12, Bonnie Juanita Garrett (age 101) left this earth to be with her beloved husband of 59 years, Carl Albert Garrett.
Bonnie's greatest joy in life was arranging trips around the world for seniors like herself. In her late 80's she also enjoyed volunteering her time to assist in Branson's veteran's week that was held each November. Bonnie will be remembered for her hospitality, her theme-related parties and her assistance at church events. She was always willing to help those in financial need. She loved dressing up as Santa's helper, the Easter bunny and for any black tie or costumed occasion.
Bonnie was born on a cotton farm in Hickoria, Clay County, Arkansas, the fifth of six children born to Loyd and Ellen (nee Gleghorn) Johns. During World War Il, at the age of 18, she married Sergeant Carl Garrett of the U.S. Army Air Force. She moved to California to live with her sister when her husband, Carl, was shipped to Guam. In California, Bonnie worked at the Port Hueneme Naval Base tracking shipments of munitions and goods to ships supporting the war in the Pacific.
At the end of the war, Carl and Bonnie moved to the Village of Riverview in St. Louis County where they would live for 58 years and raise their three children. After working as a school cafeteria worker for twelve years, Bonnie became a cashier for 21 years at Schnucks Markets where she would be recognized as the "Checker of the Year" in 1981.
In 1987, Bonnie retired from Schnucks. Her husband also retired after working 38 years at Ruberoid, a manufacturer of asbestos products. Just for fun, Bonnie and Carl started a travel business organizing trips for seniors to tourist locations in the U.S., Asia and Europe.
The business became so successful that they incorporated as Garrett Travel Service in
1993. Bonnie and Carl escorted all the trips with Bonnie making all the plane, bus, hotel and sight-seeing arrangements and Carl telling the stories and jokes. In addition to traveling to most of the states in the U.S., they were able to visit a total of 34 countries with their clientele.
Bonnie relocated to Branson in 2003 following the death of her husband and bought a condo in Lakewood Estates. She would continue the travel business for another 10 years until she became 88 years old. In Branson, Bonnie was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, and a volunteer for the Branson Veterans Task Force.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Garrett, and her youngest son, Michael D. Garrett of St. Peters, Mo. She is survived by her brother, Orbery Johns, of Ann Arbor, Mich. and her half-brother, Ernest "Bud" Johns and his spouse Carol Johns of Paragould, Ark.
Within her immediate family, Bonnie is survived by her son, Carl W. Garrett and daughter-in-law Janet K. Garrett; her daughter, Patricia G. Campbell and son-in-law Dr. Larry N.
Campbell, all of Branson.
Bonnie will be missed by her 6 grandchildren: Michael S. Garrett of St. Peters, Mo.; Jenny Waldrop and her spouse Gabe Waldrop of Rogers, Ark.; C. Douglass Garrett and his spouse Inna Park of Clayton, Mo.; Christi Campbell and her spouse Josh Walters of Overland Park, Ks.; Jonathan Garrett and his spouse Katie Garrett of Palatine, Ill.; Adam Campbell and his spouse Licia Hewitt of Decorah, la.; and also by Bonnie's 3 step-grandchildren: Dawn and her spouse Jonathan Ayers of Rolla, Mo.; Shannon and her spouse Thomas Daoukas of St.
Charles, Mo.; and Jerry Borgschulte and his spouse Allison of Lincoln, Neb.
Bonnie will also be missed by her 14 great-grandchildren: Lauren Garrett, Cody Borgschulte, Ashley Walsh, Annabella Ayers, Lucy Borgshulte, John Borgschulte, Chloe Daoukas, Josephina Stone, Lorencio Stone, Gavin Waldrop, Addison Waldrop, Elizabeth Garrett, Patrick Garrett and Heron Crile.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 20, 2026 at the Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home & Crematory in Branson, MO with burial following in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson.
