Jean Ortega, San Diego, California
Jean Ortega, born April 5, 1954, in San Diego, California, was the beloved daughter of James Michael Starr and Yoriko (Murakami) Starr. She graduated from Chula Vista High School and attended Southwestern Junior College in Chula Vista.
On February 21, 1976, she married David Ortega in Chula Vista. As a proud military wife, Jean accompanied David around the world during his service in the United States Navy. She was deeply devoted to her children, Amy and Jason, dedicating herself to their care and lovingly helping care for neighborhood children as well. When her children were older, Jean pursued a career in banking, working for San Diego Credit Union before she and David moved to Branson, where she joined Great Southern Bank. Over the years, she also worked in hospitality at Grand Oaks Hotel and Falls Parkway and served as a grocery clerk for Jubilee Foods/Price Chopper.
Jean found joy in musicals and movies and especially loved watching the Hallmark Channel and Disney films. She also enjoyed trips to the movie theater at Branson Meadows. She was very active in the women’s sorority Beta Sigma Phi and participated in many of its activities and side groups. Jean also cherished taking long walks in the park with her companion of 18 years, Stan. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, and her warm and caring spirit.
Jean entered into rest at her home in Branson on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the age of 72.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Yoriko Starr and her husband David Ortega.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Amy Bishop and Jason Ortega of Branson; her granddaughter, Natalie Bishop; her long-time companion, Stan Adams of Branson and her brother, Michael Starr of South Carolina.
The family will hold a gathering for friends to share memories.
