John Earl Mathia

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Earl Mathia, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on July 4, 2026. Born on November 1, 1961, in Wyandotte, Kansas City, John was a beacon of love and laughter, whose presence illuminated the lives of all who knew him. John was the cherished son of Janice F. Mathia and the late Jack L. Mathia. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Robin, whom he dearly loved and missed. He is survived by his devoted mother, Janice; his loving life partner, Brandy Engle, with whom he shared an enduring partnership; and their beloved children: Robin, Jonathan, Samantha, and Sara. He was also the doting grandfather to his grandson, Grayson, who brought him immense joy. John leaves behind his brothers, Danny and Rick, whose bonds he treasured deeply. Educated in Tonganoxie, Kansas, John was a man of many talents, often referred to as a "jack of all trades." His hands crafted countless projects, and no task was too great for his skilled touch, thanks to his extensive experience in construction and maintenance. John could fix or build anything imaginable, a testament to his resourcefulness and dedication. John's zest for life extended beyond his work. He proudly dubbed himself a “professional fisherman,” always eager to share tales of his latest catch, which, according to him, was always the biggest. However, it was not the size of the fish but the quality time shared and memories created that he cherished most. Whether he was at the water's edge or at a family gathering, John’s off-the-wall jokes and infectious smile could light up any room. His warmth and humor left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

A man of unwavering respect and morals, John embodied kindness and generosity in every aspect of his life. He loved those around him as if they were his own family, and in turn, he was loved by all. His legacy is one of compassion, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. John Mathia’s life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and hard work. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love and laughter.
