Melvin "Mel" Mootz, 66, passed away on May 14, 2026.
Born in Oregon, Mel spent much of his life in the Branson area, where he made many lifelong friendships. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and made many lasting friends through the game.
Mel enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball, football, classic westerns, and funny movies. He was also a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, and those who knew him would likely say he was one of their biggest supporters. Mel spent many years working as a server in Branson, where he enjoyed visiting with people and making them laugh. He had a distinct laugh that was unforgettable to those who knew him. He loved his family, made a point to call and check on people, and had a gift for bringing people together. He also dearly loved his dogs.
He is survived by his family and friends, who will cherish the memories they shared with him and carry his love with them always.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Alpena Cemetery in Alpena, Arkansas. Family and friends are encouraged to arrive at 10:30 a.m.
He will be deeply missed, and his love will be carried on by his loved ones forever.
