Shawna Kathleen Cunningham, age 59, of Branson, Missouri,
Shawna Kathleen Cunningham, age 59, of Branson, Missouri, passed away on July 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unconditional love. Born on March 2, 1967, in Pontiac, Michigan, Shawna was the beloved daughter of Shirley Mae Hughes, who preceded her in death. She was also welcomed into Heaven by her cherished nephews, Brandon Mays and Luke Gerfen.
For most of her life, Shawna worked as a server. To her, it was never simply a job, it was an opportunity to connect with people. Whether sharing a laugh, offering a listening ear, or simply remembering a customer’s name, Shawna made every day a little brighter for those around her. Above all else, Shawna’s greatest joy was her family.
She was a devoted mother to her daughters: Summer Prater, April Garrett, and Spring McKinder. She also lovingly raised Matthew McKinder and Zachary Rose from their early years, and they always knew her as Mom.
Shawna believed family was built on love, and she opened her heart without hesitation to everyone she welcomed into her life. Known simply as “Nana” to those who adored her most, Shawna treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren: Joshua Prater, Tarrick Prater, Jeremiah Prater, Shawn Prater, Alyssa Prater, Caleb Garrett, Christian Garrett, Cleopatra Garrett, Patrick Cable, and Shelby Cable. She was also blessed with her great-grandson, Tatum Garrett, and eagerly awaited the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Garrett. She also loved Caleb’s wife, Zoe Garrett, and was proud of the family they were building together.
Nothing made Shawna happier than talking about her children and grandchildren. If someone asked about one of them, they had better find a comfortable seat, because she would proudly share every accomplishment,
every milestone, and every reason she believed they were the very best. Her love for her family knew no limits and her pride in them was evident to everyone who met her.
Shawna leaves behind her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Shawna also leaves behind her beloved sister and best friend, Shannon Gerfen. Their bond was one of deep love, loyalty, and friendship, and Shannon held a very special place in Shawna’s heart. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Mark Gerfen; her beloved nieces, Lacie Gerfen and Jennifer Mays; along with many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know her.
One of Shawna’s greatest dreams was to one day have all of her children living together on the same property so they could share everyday life, holidays, laughter, and memories together. Nothing mattered more to her than keeping her family close. When she wasn’t spending time with those she loved, Shawna enjoyed listening to old-time rock and roll, music that perfectly matched her spirit and brought a smile to her face. To know Shawna was to know unconditional love. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, accepted, and important. Her home, her heart, and her arms were always open. Though her family grieves the loss of an incredible mom, Nana, sister, aunt, and friend, they find comfort in knowing that her love will continue to live on through the lives she touched.
Her kindness, her laughter, and the countless memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of life is planned at a later date.
