Arkansas Candidate Filing Deadline: Which Races will be Contested in November?

Noon Wednesday was the filing deadline for candidates to be included in Arkansas Municipal Elections in November.

Boone County Clerk Crystal Graddy released the list of candidates right after the deadline passed.

The City of Harrison will have a three-way race to succeed Mayor Jerry Jackson who was not seeking another term in office. Current Ward 2 Position 1 Council Member Mitch Magness is seeking the seat as is Jason Watts and Rhonda Watkins. The race to fill Magness's seat in Ward 2 will also be contested with Roni Combs and Truman Copeland running against each other. 

There will be two other changes on the Harrison City Council as Josh Earl in Ward 1 and Joel Williams in Ward 4 did not sign-up for reelection. Shon Hardy in Ward 1 and Jeff Pratt in Ward 4 will run unopposed to succeed them. 

Elsewhere in Boone County, a contested Mayor's Race will take place in Bergman as incumbent Danny Farmer will face a challenge from Jamie Foresee Gonzalez while in South Lead Hill, Tempy Smith and Howard Pinkerton will run to replace outgoing Mayor Lyna Gulledge.

Several communities, including Alpena, Bellefonte, Diamond City, Lead Hill, Omaha, and Valley Springs will have no contested races. 

Meanwhile in Carroll County, Clerk Connie Doss has released the candidate's list which also includes a three-way race for Mayor. Eureka Springs Mayor Butch Berry will face challenges from Council Member Steve Holifield and Susan Harman. One Council Race will also be contested in Eureka Springs with Harry Meyer facing a challenge from Shira Fouste. In addition, Michael Carey and Aaron Borey will run for the for the City Clerk/Treasurer office. 

There will also be a three-way Mayor's race in Green Forest to succeed Don McNeely who passed away last November. Mark Jorgensen, Janell Compton, and Charles Reece will run for the position. There are two contested City Council Races with Casie Cenobio going up against Jerry Carlton in Ward 1 while Luis Diaz and Carroll Smit will run for a Ward 2 seat. 

A contested Mayor's race will also take place in Oak Grove with current Mayor Robert Fairweather running against Council Member Lajunta Plumlee.

Arkansas Municipal Elections will take place in conjunction with the National Mid-Term Elections on November 3.
