Boone County Sheriff's Office Investigates Death at Sheriff's Office Parking Lot

The Boone County Sheriff's Office releases information about a man who took his own life in the department’s parking area Tuesday evening.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is releasing information regarding a death that occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on September 15, 2026, in the public parking area of the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

An adult male arrived at the Sheriff's Office parking lot in his personal vehicle. Shortly after arriving, he entered a grassy area adjacent to the parking lot, where he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident was captured by the Sheriff's Office security camera system. Deputies and investigators conducted a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death. Based upon the evidence and information available to investigators, the death has been determined to be a suicide. There is no indication that the incident involved foul play or that there is any ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office recognizes that a death by suicide is a deeply painful and difficult event, particularly for the victim's family, friends, and others who knew and cared about them. Out of respect for those individuals, the Sheriff's Office will not release unnecessary details regarding the circumstances of the death.

"We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic loss," said Sheriff Roy Martin. "We ask that the privacy of those grieving be respected during this difficult time."
