Efforts from the U.S. Forest Service as well as Thursday morning’s rain has helped firefighters contain a wildfire at an area trail.
According to the release from the forest service, the fire that started Monday at Glade Top Trail southwest of Ava is now fully contained. The release indicated that firefighters had a successful fire operation prior to the rain to help remove areas for possible fire expansion. That followed by the rain helped get the fire contained. Personnel will continue to monitor the fire over the next couple days to ensure it does not start to spread again.
According to the release, GPS mapping indicates that the fire impacted a total of 1,611 acres in size.
