A bill that has been pre-filed for the 2026 Missouri Legislative Session looks to increase the speed on Missouri Rural Interstates from 70 to 75 MPH.
Republican Senator Jamie Burger of Benton has made the proposal, which would make the interstate speed limit similar to neighboring states like Arkansas and Kansas.
An Ozarks First report indicates many drivers interviewed are in favor of the higher limit but some drivers are concerned that the higher speed limit will lead to some drivers actually pushing their vehicles to 80 MPH or higher on those interstates.
The Ozarks First report adds that if the proposal passes through the legislature, it would still require final authorization from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission before becoming law.
The complete report can be found on the Ozarks First Website.
