A tornado has now been confirmed as par of the rounds of severe thunderstorms that ripped through the region early Monday evening.
A report released by the National Weather Service Springfield Office indicates the tornado briefly hit the ground near the Stone County Community of Elsey and stayed on the ground for just under a mile and a half. Peak winds were reported at 77 MPH with the twister measuring 50 yards in diameter.
Damage in that area according to the report included an uplifted roof to an outbuilding, uprooted trees, uplifted roof to outbuilding storage sheds, additional roof damage to a church and a home and large tree branches snapped.
The storm system earlier produced a tornado that hit the ground in Benton County near Rogers.
