Ozark Rape Crisis Center is There to Help 24 Hours a Day

The Ozark Rape Crisis Center serves people who've been victims of sexual assault and sexual violence; their services are free.

Rebecca, Brianna and Kristy appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss the center. Kristy is the advocacy services coordinator of the Harrison, Arkansas office. She said crisis intervention services are offered 24 hours a day. Rebecca leads preventative education services for schools. Brianna is the sexual assault advocate.

The center runs in many ways thanks to volunteers. Kristy said the offices wouldn't continue without them, and she added that every office has one. Clarksville and Russellville are both home to an office also.

The crisis line stays open all of the time, so volunteers are a must. Kristy said if they receive calls from authorities, she and the team arrive on site. They are with the victim all the way to provide whatever help they need.

Rebecca said she has "the fun job." She goes out to educate people on preventing sexual assault and having good relationships. Consent is the point she highlights. She said the programs offered start at the sixth-grade level.

"From one to 99, if you'll listen, I'll talk," Rebecca said. Interestingly, generational differences play a big part in people shying away from discussing sexual assault and violence.

Kristy said many people come from generations where this isn't something appropriate to talk about. She magnified social media and kids getting phones at a young age as risk factors.

The center's 24-hour crisis phone number is 1-800-818-1189 and confidential. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Brianna, Rebecca and Kristy is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
