2026 Continues to be a year of two celebrations for the County Seat of Boone County.
America 250 coincides with Harrison 150 with the dual celebration continuing Independence Day Saturday.
Activities will begin at the Harrison Court Park at 10:30 am with the Sons of American Revolution dedicating a marker to Jordon Milam, the only Revolutionary War Patriot buried in Boone County.
Following at 11:00 am, the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold the annual "Let Freedom Ring" event which will include free watermelon for attendees. Actors portraying Betsy Ross along with George and Martha Washington will make presentations along with singing from the Merry Mother of God Choir. A Bell Ringing saluting the 13 Original Colonies will also be a part of the ceremony.
The FedEx Freight 2026 Fire in the Sky Event gets underway with the gates opening at 5:00 pm which will also open registration for the competitions going on through the evening including the Impactees Frozen T-Shirt Contest, the DQ Ice Cream Eating contest, and the Buckets Hot Wings contest. Live music will be provided by Chris Luneau and the White Buffalo. The Boys Scouts will post the Colors around 8:30 with fireworks to follow around an hour later.
