Bonniebrook, the Historic Home and Museum of famed artist and Kewpie Doll creator Rose O’Neill, will host an Open House on Saturday, April 18 from 10am to 4pm. Visitors are welcome to tour the Art Museum and Historic Home free of charge for the day. Bonniebrook is located at 485 Rose O’Neill Road in Walnut Shade.
In addition, Bonniebrook will host an incredibly talented group of musicians for its first of the season Blue Grass Jam. Come, sit back and enjoy the magical music of the Ozarks. Light refreshments will be available while quantities last and there will be a silent auction featuring a wide array of wonderful items.
The first commercially successful female illustrator, cartoonist, fine artist and Mother of the Kewpie Doll, Rose O’Neill was a trailblazer and woman ahead of her time. Born in 1874, she achieved unprecedented success as a result of her determination, innovation and creativity. O’Neill funded the construction of the original Bonniebrook home for her family in the 1890s and lived there on and off until she retired permanently to Bonniebrook in the 1930s. Sadly the home burned down in 1947, but was rebuilt by the Bonniebrook Historical Society and completed in the 1990s.
Take a step back in time and enjoy the day strolling through the Bonniebrook Museum, Historic Home and beautiful gardens designed and maintained by the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks free of charge as we celebrate opening for the season. For those who can’t make the Open House, Bonniebrook is open from 10am to 4pm Wednesday through Saturday from April through October. Guided tours are $10 for adults, $5 for students and Veterans and children 12 and under are free. We hope to see you there!
