The Air Race Classic Women’s Flying Race stop in Harrison featured an interesting twist that had the race beginning at the Boone County Airport.
Matt Bell of Explore Harrison, during an interview on KHOZ’S “Around the Table” program said the weather forced a change of plans as what was expected to be a few teams of pilots possible spending the night in Harrison to over 30 teams that did.
The ARC Facebook Page said the weather cancelled the start of the race in Fair Hope, Alabama and the first stop in Mississippi. While some of the 40 teams stayed in Fair Hope, many flew to Harrison on Tuesday for the new start location of the race on Wednesday.
Bell added during his “Around the Table” interview that the community stepped up to adjust to the change of plans, including getting a bus from the City of Harrison Parks Department to get all the pilots to the airport for their Wednesday departure.
