Annual Women's Air Race Features Stop in Lakes Region

An organization which promotes Women Pilots will conduct its annual Women's Air Race next week with a stop scheduled in the Lakes Region.

Air Race Classic, Inc. (ARC) will hold its 48th annual race next week featuring teams of women pilots from around the world. The pilots will compete flying normally aspirated, piston-powered airplanes in visual flight conditions during daylight hours according to a release from the organization.

For only the second time in the 48 events, the race route comes through the Lakes Region as the Boone County Airport in Harrison is on the race route. According to information released by both ARC and the airport, the airplanes will do a flyover with the option to possible land at the facility. 

Though the race has featured stops in both Arkansas and Missouri over the years, the only other Lakes Region stop for the event was in Mountain Home in 1991.  

This year's race starts next Tuesday in Fairhope, Alabama with Harrison the second airport on the route after a flyby in Starkville, Mississippi. The airport in McPherson, Kansas is also on the course as it will continue northwest ending in Spokane, Washington on Friday. Though racers may use different schedules to complete the race, most of the pilots are expected to fly over the Boone County Airport on Tuesday.
