Bone Found at Branson Work Site Not Human

Crews working on the City of Branson Infrastructure Project in the Hiawatha Heights Neighborhood got a surprise last week.

The complete release below is from the Branson Police Department:

At approximately 9:28 a.m., November 6,  Branson Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Cliff Drive and Pocahontas Street after work crews reported discovering what appeared to be a human bone while excavating for water main access.

The bone was located in a trench several feet below the surface, at the depth of the original Cliff Drive roadway constructed in the 1960s.

Upon arrival, officers secured the area and contacted the Taney County Coroner who responded to the scene. The coroner consulted with an anthropologist from the University of Missouri, who later determined the bone was not human. It was identified as the leg bone of a large, hoofed animal, such as a horse or cow.

Following this determination, the scene was cleared and water main repair work resumed.

We appreciate the cooperation of the construction crews and the assistance of the Taney County Coroner’s Office during this investigation.
