Local author Brandy Mincer's new book is "Cedric the Sad Rock," and it has a lesson that comes from her experience.
Mincer talked about the book on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Monday. It's a children's book that follows the journey of a rock who tries to lift his sad friend's mood. Eventually, he gives up and just sits with his friend. Mincer said the book is dedicated to her friends who were present with her after her dad and brother passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The book was also inspired by her sons. She said there are a lot of rocks in front of her porch. She and her kids started drawing with a Sharpie on rocks. She credited her oldest son with the idea. He told her that it's a good book idea, and he said she should take pictures of the rocks.
All of the illustrations are based on those pictures. Later, the author teased the possibility of writing a graphic novel woven with Christian themes.
Mincer's books are available for purchase on her website. More was discussed on the broadcast.
The full interview with Mincer is on the "Around The Table" Facebook page.
