Fire Units from Missouri and Arkansas battle a blaze on Christmas Day that results in a fatality.
The release below is from the Western Taney County Fire Protection District:
On December 25th, just after 1:30p.m., Western Taney County Firefighters from 10 stations were dispatched to the 5300 Block of State Highway JJ for a structure fire. First arriving units reported heavy fire conditions from the house, multiple vehicles on fire, and that the fire had spread to the woods.
Firefighters began fire extinguishment efforts, and due to the amount of fire, a second alarm was requested. Over 20 volunteer firefighters from Western Taney County Fire District plus additional crews from Omaha Fire and Central Taney County responded to the scene.
During initial fire attack efforts, Western Taney County Firefighters found the body of a deceased individual located outside of the home.
The home was a total loss and an excavator from Taney County was requested to assist in overhauling the debris and extinguishing hard to reach hot spots. During firefighting operations, a water shuttle was established and over 30,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish this fire.
Because this was a fatality fire, a fire investigator from the Missouri Division of Fire Safety and a representative from the Taney County Coroners Office were requested to the scene.
All crews cleared the scene shortly before 10:00 p.m.
A special Thank You to all our volunteers- and our regional mutual aid departments - for responding to this call on Christmas Day.
