POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — The College of the Ozarks Jazz Ensemble will present a concert, a free event open to the public, Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m. The concert will take place in the Jones Auditorium on the College campus.
Dr. Kevin Powers has served as the jazz director at the College for eleven years. He chooses pieces with care, and the program reflects his interest in contrasting jazz styles. He believes it is important for the College of the Ozarks Jazz Ensemble to play a wide variety of jazz music. Students will perform improvised solos during the concert.
“The jazz ensemble as a performing medium has such a buoyancy and energy, I think it is quite contagious,” said Dr. Powers. “I know for me personally watching and listening to my student performers grow and develop throughout the semester, and then hearing them culminate this in a public performance, most definitely lifts my spirits.”
