Drought Conditions Remain Though Recent Rains Have Helped

Though the Lakes Region remains in Drought Conditions, the recent rains have decreased the level of drought in some areas.

The latest report issued by the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that much of the Lakes Region remains at an Extreme Drought Level which indicates continued stress on farmland and water supplies. Most of Taney County including the Branson area along with all of Stone and Barry Counties in Missouri and most of Carroll and parts of Boone Counties in Arkansas are still at extreme levels. This includes all of the areas around Table Rock Lake and Lake Taneycomo. 

Heavier rains in the eastern parts of the Lakes Region around Bull Shoals Lake have helped that area drop to a Severe Drought Level where stress on the land and water supplies has decreased slightly due to the rainfall. This area includes the eastern half of Taney County and all of Ozark County in Missouri as well as central and eastern Boone County and all of Marion, Newton, and Searcy Counties in Arkansas. 

After the current system moves out of the region, a hot and dry weekend is in the forecast with more rain possible on Monday.

  • Hollister Schools Foundation donates $4,000 for Therapy Dog

    The Hollister Schools Foundation has presented a $4,000 check to the Hollister R-V School District, funds raised during last spring’s "Coins for a Cause" fundraiser. The generous donation will be used to help purchase two therapy dogs for the district, set to debut at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The check was presented to Superintendent Dr. Brian Wilson and Assistant Superintendent of District Operations, Dr. Sean Woods, by foundation board members Katie Adams, Ryan Gdovin, and Denise Olmstead.
