Dry Conditions Return to the Lakes Region

The dry conditions of late July into August has seen a return of some drought conditions to the Lakes Region.

According to the latest map from the U.S. Drought Monitor, central and eastern Barry County and western Stone County in Missouri along with northern Carroll County in Arkansas are showing a Moderate Drought Level which is indicated by a lowering of water levels as well as dry conditions leading to dangerous burning conditions. 

The rest of the Missouri Lakes Region including the Branson area as well areas north and west of Harrison in Arkansas are showing an Abnormally Dry Level according to the Drought Monitor indicated by grass turning brown and the beginning of dangerous burning conditions.

While areas south of Harrison are not indicating dry conditions by the Drought Monitor Criteria, water levels continue to be low at the Buffalo National River according to the USGS with much of the waterway showing low water levels for floating. 

The National Weather Service forecast has little to no rain and hot conditions to continue for the next seven days.
