County Clerks around the state are in the process of certifying the results of the Tuesday Municipal Election. In one county, that task includes additional responsibilities.
In Reeds Spring, write-in candidates for all three races, Mayor and Two Aldermen seats, garnered the most votes. Stone County Clerk Denise Dickens tells Ozarks First that the process of certification will include counting the write-in votes to see who they were for and if the are more than the highest vote getter on the ballot.
In Missouri, official write-in candidates are required to certify in order to be a legal candidate. According to Dickens, Barbara Hoke, was the only person to do so in the Mayor's race while for Ward 2, Steve Rogers and Steven J. Podhola were declared write-in candidates. Dickens tells Ozarks First in those races, only the certified write-ins will be counted.
Meanwhile, the Ward 1 Race has another unique situation as there was no name on the ballot on no one certified as a write-in. One person, Linda Jansen, was part of a group that included Hoke and Rogers that attended a meeting prior to the election to promote her write-in campaign according to a post from the Reeds Spring Community Page on Facebook.
Dickens says that all the names written in for that race will be counted as long as they are an eligible Reeds Spring resident. She also tells Ozarks First that the write-ins will be counted on Friday.
As in all cities around the state, when the numbers are certified by the clerk’s office, each city then certifies the results by a vote of the current City Council or Board of Aldermen before the winners are sworn into office.
