
After periods of rain for the past several weeks, the Lakes Region is about to experience extreme heat.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning beginning today and extending through Wednesday for the Missouri Lakes Region. As of Friday night, no heat advisories and warnings have been issued in the Arkansas Lakes Region though heat index readings are expected around 100 through the weekend while the areas under the Extreme Heat Warning could see heat index readings up to 106 over the next several days.
The weather service statement says that heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events and to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Also, do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
