After periods of rain for the past several weeks, the Lakes Region is about to experience extreme heat.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning that began on Saturday and extends through Thursday for the Missouri Lakes Region. Meanwhile, a Heat Advisory is in effect for the Arkansas Lakes Region today with heat index readings expected between 100 and 106 over the next several days.
The weather service statement says that heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events and to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Also, do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
