The Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB is proposing a festival to celebrate the new look of downtown.
During a presentation at last week's Branson Board of Aldermen Meeting, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer for the Chamber Heather Hermen made a request to use $53,000 of the Tourism Tax Contingency Fund to promote the event that will highlight the work that has been done along Main Street and be a launching of what is hoped to be an annual event involving the downtown businesses.
Hermen mentioned that while the chamber hopes for this to be an annual event, she states that she is asking for a one-time grant from the city to help with promoting the event since the chamber's marketing budget had been set prior to the suggestion for this event.
In discussion of the topic, Mayor Larry Milton, appearing remotely due to his recent injury and on-going recovery, said he wanted to be sure that the public knows that the proposed date of the festival, October 3 and 4, is a couple of weeks before the deadline for the finishing of the east part of Main Street and also mentioned a potential issue with a vendor that might delay the installation of some lighting.
The board did approve the request on first reading with the final reading of the ordinance scheduled for the next board meeting on August 26.
