Former Silver Dollar City Publicity Director Lisa Rau Dies

The person who spent over three decades telling the story of one of America's Best Theme Parks has passed away.

Several media outlets have reported the passing of Lisa Rau Thursday at the age of 64. While Rau worked in several different capacities in her 40 year career, over 30 of those years was as Publicity Director for Silver Dollar City. Rau served the city in two stints, from 1989 until 1997, then after a six month tenure working for The Vacation Channel as Station Manager for their Vail, Colorado operation, returned to SDC in 1998 and stayed until 2023.

Prior to her time at Silver Dollar City, Rau spent five years as a Reporter/Anchor at KYTV in Springfield and after retiring from Silver Dollar City in 2023, spent a year as the Communications Director for the City of Branson then started her own Public Relations Firm in 2024.

The statement issued by SDC on Lisa Rau's Passing is below:

“Lisa was a member of our work family for more than three decades before retiring in 2023. Her passion for telling the stories of our special City and the Ozarks was unparalleled,” the statement reads. “As our PR Director, she built a legacy of theme park public relations through historic ride launches, grand openings, and “stunts with integrity.” She was a tireless champion of our culture along the way. Her impact will live on in the hearts of our Citizens."

Among other reactions posted online include Branson Mayor Larry Milton, who's reaction was posted online on the City of Branson Facebook Page:

"We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Lisa Rau, a beloved former Communications Director for the City of Branson, a dear friend of mine personally, and a cherished figure throughout the Ozarks. Lisa was a gifted storyteller whose work, from her years in broadcasting to her leadership roles at Silver Dollar City and here at the City, helped shape how the world sees our community. Lisa brought passion, professionalism, and warmth to everything she did. She uplifted the people around her and dedicated her career to highlighting the very best of Branson. Her impact on our city is lasting and her loss is felt by all who knew and worked with her. On behalf of the City of Branson, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Lisa’s legacy will remain a meaningful part of our community."
