The former owner of the Taco Habitat franchise including the location in Branson, which never opened to the public, is heading to federal prison.
John Michael Felts, 49, was sentenced to two years in federal prison without parole for his part in a $14 million wire fraud conspiracy which included real businesses and fictional businesses to receive loans under the CARES Act during the COVID-19 crisis. He pleaded guilty in July 2023 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud.
He had faced up to 40 years in prison.
