A 28-year-old Harrison man needs a kidney transplant, and the owner of JJ's Buffalo Bar & Grill has stepped up to help.
The owner, Jason Phifer, appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to talk about what he's doing to help Alan Sexton, the son of some of his patrons. He's holding a cornhole tournament at the bar and grill on June 1 from 11 a.m. until close, and live music will play. JJ's will give $100 to the winner, but all entry fees go to help Sexton. Additionally, anyone wanting to donate can leave their contribution in bucket JJ's will have available. Phifer shared some details about Sexton and his parents.
Their names are Scott and Cindy Williams. Phifer explained that Sexton has battled kidney problems since he was three months old. Today, Sexton has a wife and children.
His treatment is costly. "It's $5,000 every time he goes and does dialysis," Phifer said. He undergoes that treatment twice a week. The restaurant owner expressed that it's time for Sexton to get a kidney transplant.
Phifer added that Cindy said anyone wanting to serve as a living donor can visit the UAMS website for additional information. In addition, the family has a GoFundMe page that's active. More was discussed on the broadcast.
