Harrison's 28 annual Balloon Festival starts this coming weekend on Sept. 8, according to Explore Harrison Executive Director Matt Bell.
Bell appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Friday to talk about the event. He said the "big evening of events" begins at the soccer complex at 4 p.m. It will have food trucks and more, including a petting zoo. Balloons will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Bell asked that parents exercise caution on Goblin Drive when taking their children to school on Friday morning. Five balloons will take flight from behind the middle school. This is a promotion of the balloon festival.
Sept. 9 through Sept. 10 features the balloon flight competition. Bell said the best spot to watch the balloons is by the First Baptist Church in the morning.
Again, there will be festival activities after the balloon flights. Bounce houses are among the many fun things attendees can expect in addition to vendors.
Attendees can also take flight in a tethered hot air balloon ride for $20 a person. Go passes are available for people wanting to skip the line for an extra $10. Anyone wanting to ride one should be in line by 6 p.m. at the earliest.
Sunday morning sees the end of the flight competition. Later, Bell said volunteers are needed, especially for Saturday night's tethered rides.
Anyone can reach Bell's office about volunteering by calling 870-741-1789. Alternatively, people can sign up to volunteer online. More was discussed during the broadcast.
