
The hot conditions will stay in place in the Lakes Region into next week.
The National Weather Service has extended the Heat Advisory for the Missouri Lakes Region including the Branson area for the next five days. Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90s with heat index readings around 105.
Meanwhile, temperatures in northern Arkansas are forecast to be slightly lower. While the Heat Advisory has not been extended for the Arkansas Lakes Region, heat index readings are still expected around 100.
Part of a frontal boundary that has been producing heavy rainfall in the Kansas City area will break through the high-pressure ridge giving the Lakes Region a chance of some scattered showers over the weekend.
While the Lakes Region is in an extended period of dry weather, the heavier rain earlier in the summer has kept drought conditions at bay.
The latest information released Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates no drought conditions in the region with little pressure on crops thanks to the rain so far this year.
While no drought conditions currently exist, the extended dry weather has impacted area streams including the Buffalo National River which are becoming low while lake levels remain high due to earlier rains.
