Heavy Rain, Severe Weather Update

Rounds of heavy rain will continue across the Ozarks over the next two days with some areas at a risk for severe weather.

5:00 AM UPDATE
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch covering Lakes Area Counties of Barry, Christian, Stone, and Taney in Missouri along with Boone, Carroll, Madison, and Newton in Arkansas until 11:00 am. A Slight to Enhanced Risk of Severe Thunderstorms are possible with large hail and damaging winds being the primary threat. Some tornado development can't be ruled out according to the NWS.

In a conference call held by the National Weather Service Thursday afternoon, forecasters indicated that the front that caused the severe weather Wednesday has stalled out over northern Arkansas, which will act as a dividing line for the chance of severe weather. 

Areas southeast of a Berryville/Harrison/Mountain Home line will be and a Level 3 or Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms while much of Searcy and Southern Newton Counties including areas around Marshall and Jasper could see a Level 4 our Moderate Risk of severe storms. All modes of severe weather will be possible in those areas including tornados.

The severe threat is lower in southern Missouri with just a Level 2 or Slight Risk in the Lakes Region though stronger severe weather is possible around the Missouri-Arkansas Boarder. Hail is the primary threat in Missouri. 

Meanwhile, the entire region will see heavy rain with the current predications calling for four to six inches of rain southeast of a Branson-Eureka Springs line with slighter lower amounts northwest of that line. Amounts increase in Arkansas with areas southeast of Harrison possible seeing rainfall amounts over eight inches. 

Several area rivers are expecting minor to moderate flooding with the rain, which will continue in bands through early Sunday morning.
