The Missouri Department of Transportation has a pair of bridges in the Lakes Region available under guidelines laid out by law.
According to the MODOT Website, when the department is looking to replace historic bridges, they or local transportation partners must first make them available to donate to a state, locality, or private entity provided the recipient agrees to maintain the bridge and the features that give it historic significance. While that entity would not be required to buy the bridge, they would assume all future legal and financial responsibility for the bridge according to federal law.
MODOT is currently accepting applications for two historic bridges, both located in the Lakes Region and both on Highway 160. One is the Swan Creek Bridge in Forsyth near Shadow Rock Park and the other is the Theodosia Bridge over Bull Shoals Lake.
The application deadline for the Swan Creek Bridge is December 10 while the deadline for the Theodosia Bridge is January 9 of next year.
