The State Senator representing much of the Lakes Region will have a position on two new committees.
The release below is from State Senator Brad Hudson's Chief of Staff Daniel Seitz:
Senate President Pro Tem Cindy O’Laughlin, R-Shelbina, this week named Sen. Brad Hudson, R-Cape Fair, to leadership positions on two newly created Senate Select Committees. Hudson will serve as Chair of the Select Committee on Government Modernization and Transformation, and Vice Chair of the Select Committee on Property Taxes and the State Tax Commission.
“I’m honored to lead the new Senate Select Committee on Government Modernization and Transformation,” said Hudson. “For too long, the answer to ‘why’ government does something has been ‘because that is how we have always done it.’ It’s my desire to pull back the curtain, see what works and what does not, and streamline our government agencies to do more while spending less. There is no question that state government is too large, and our agencies spend far too much taxpayer money that could go towards the benefit of the people, rather than the benefit of the government. The role of this committee will be to find the waste, make recommendations on how to trim the fat and work in coordination with the Appropriations Committee and full body of the Senate to rein in government spending and save taxpayer dollars.
In addition to this new chairmanship, I’ll be serving as Vice Chair of the Select Committee on Property Taxes and the State Tax Commission. This committee will study the current climate of real and personal property taxation and evaluate the performance of the State Tax Commission. Missourians want tax reform, especially property tax reform, and it is my hope that this committee can crack the code on this important issue and deliver real reform to the citizens of our state.
The tasks before these committees are not small, and the work will not be easy, but we are ready for the challenge. I’m thankful to Pro Tem O’Laughlin for choosing me to help lead these important efforts, and look forward to working with my colleagues on the committees, and in the Senate and House, to create meaningful change for the citizens of Missouri.”
