Lakes Region Drought Intensity: Decreases in Missouri, Steady in Arkansas

More rain in the Lakes Region means a decrease in drought intensity for some areas.

The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that for the Missouri Lakes region, the area has dropped on level from last week. For central and southern Barry County and extreme southwest Stone County, that means a drop from Extreme to Severe Drought. For the rest of the region including the Branson area, a drop from Severe to Moderate Drought. 

Most areas in Arkansas remain the same from last week with Extreme Drought remaining for parts of Carroll and Boone Counties between Eureka Springs and Harrison with the rest of those counties as well as all of Newton and most of Marion Counties remaining in Severe Drought. Searcy County as well as southern Marion Counties have a lower drought reading. 

The National Weather Service says forecasts continue to show more rain in the next few weeks but drought conditions will remain into September.

  • Hollister Schools Foundation donates $4,000 for Therapy Dog

    The Hollister Schools Foundation has presented a $4,000 check to the Hollister R-V School District, funds raised during last spring’s "Coins for a Cause" fundraiser. The generous donation will be used to help purchase two therapy dogs for the district, set to debut at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The check was presented to Superintendent Dr. Brian Wilson and Assistant Superintendent of District Operations, Dr. Sean Woods, by foundation board members Katie Adams, Ryan Gdovin, and Denise Olmstead.
