A male exhibiting signs of being under the influence has been arrested in Ozark County on accusation of assault and property damage.
According to a release from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department, on July 14, dispatch received a call of a male at the Pontiac Marina campground acting erratic and allegedly breaking a camper’s truck windows. Witnesses believed the male to be under the influence of drugs at the time.
Deputies arrived on scene and located the male and victims of the damaged property. Officials state the suspect, identified as Edward Malyk, exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Malyk allegedly resisted authorities while being placed under arrest, leading to a use of force resulting in him being assisted into handcuffs.
Authorities state suspected cocaine was located in Malyk’s vehicle, along with paraphernalia.
During the investigation, Malyk expressed the need for air and officials granted him a partially cracked window to assist with his request. Malyk reportedly took advantage of the cracked window, and crawled out of it, attempting to escape barefooted and in handcuffs. Authorities state in Malyk’s attempted escape, he did not make it very far.
Malyk has been booked into the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department on charges of property damage, assault, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
