A change in leadership is coming to the County Commission in Stone County.
According to a report from the Branson Tri-Lakes News, Presiding Commissioner Mark Maples announced his resignation at the meeting on July 15 with Southern Commissioner Hank Smythe stepping in to preside over the meetings until an successor is appointed.
Maples, who had been Presiding Commissioner since 2019, did not give a reason for his resignation.
According to Missouri State Law, it will be up to Governor Mike Kehoe to appoint the replacement for Maples. Stone County Clerk Denise Dickens tells the Branson Tri-Lakes News that Maples resignation officially takes effect July 31 at which time the Governor’s Office will except applications to fill Maples position.
