Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe takes a proactive approach in response to unrest that is occurring in other parts of the country.
On Thursday, Kehoe declared a State of Emergency and activated the National Guard.
The order comes after the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri National Guard, and the Missouri Department of Public Safety established a Unified Command to monitor situations across the state and prepare local law enforcement.
In a press release announcing the Executive Order, Kehoe says the state defends and respects the right for people to peacefully protest but will not tolerate violence as part of those protests.
The order allows for support of local law enforcement in areas that may need assistance to maintain order in cities and communities around the state.
