Missouri hunters asked to take down tree stands by end of January

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — According to Missouri state statute, portable tree stands are required to be taken down by Feb. 1 in conservation areas.

Hunters have until this Sunday to take their stands down in areas where black bear, deer, or elk hunting is allowed. This is according rule 3 CSR 10-11.145 of the Wildlife Code in Missouri. Portable tree stands are allowed from Sept. 1 through Jan. 31.

If a hunter is leaving a stand unattended during that period, hunters are required to label them with a full name and address or the conservation number of the owner. Use of nails, screw-in steps, and any material that could damage a tree is not allowed, the state says.
