Missouri lawmakers to consider regulating AI

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri lawmakers will consider several bills next year that aim to regulate artificial intelligence at the state level.

In particular, a handful of pre-filed pieces of legislation would ban the use of “deepfake” pornographic material, including a measure that specifically targets the use of AI to create child pornography.

Republican Governor Mike Kehoe commented on the emergence of artificial intelligence within the state government, pointing to Attorney General Catherine Hanaway’s office as a testament to how AI can improve government services. He said Hanaway has embraced the use of AI to help improve the large caseload her office is responsible for managing.
