North Arkansas College of the University of Arkansas has restarted its Commercial Driver's License after having been paused for 18 months.
Charlie Duggan runs the program for UA Northark, and he said during a recent visit to "Around the Table" on Harrison's Original KHOZ, that the donation from FedEx Freight of truck tractors and two 48-foot trailers provided the school the needed equipment to get started.
Duggan said that the first class has already started and there will be a new class each month going forward taking up to eight students per class. The next class is slated to start on September 14.
According to Duggan, the truck driving program provides the technical knowledge and driving skills necessary for students to earn a Class A CDL and pursue employment in the transportation industry. Training includes vehicle operation, safety procedures, inspections, backing maneuvers, Department of Tranportaion regulations, and other requirements needed for commercial drivers.
Students interested in the program must possess a valid driver's license, a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP), a current DOT physical, and a negative drug screening before enrollment. The program cost is $3,700.
