Prolonged hot and dry weather has led fire officials across the Ozarks to urge caution with outdoor burning.
In southwest Missouri, the Ozark Fire Protection District in Christian County issued a No Burning Notice effective September 1, citing continued dry vegetation, elevated fire danger, and the potential for fires to spread rapidly and become difficult to control. The notice prohibits outdoor burning activities including brush piles, yard waste, bonfires, and agricultural burns until conditions improve.
The Southern Stone County Fire Protection District issued a statement on their Facebook page that due to the extreme weather conditions, please refrain from unnecessary burning or control burns until favorable weather conditions prevail.
Across the state line in Arkansas, Boone, Carroll, Madison, and Searcy counties are currently under burn bans as wildfire concerns continue to increase throughout the region. Local officials there point to the combination of dry fuels and ongoing warm temperatures as key factors behind the restrictions.
Hot and dry conditions are expected to continue in the Lakes Region through the Labor Day weekend.
