Pursuit on Highway 65 Results in Death of Suspect

Travelers on Highway 65 between Ozark and Springfield Saturday morning worked their way around a traffic crash after a high speed pursuit that ended in the death of the suspect.

The posts below are from the Greene County Sheriff's Office:

On Saturday November 8th around 08:48, Greene County Deputies were requested to assist the Christian County Sheriff’s Office in reference to their pursuit of a wanted subject which entered our jurisdiction at Highway 65 and Evans Road. Christian County Deputies advised that the suspect vehicle had driven off the road, crashed, overturned and began to catch fire.

While giving orders to the suspect driver a single gunshot was heard from the overturned vehicle.  The suspect driver failed to comply with orders so Christian County and a MSHP Trooper extracted the driver however the driver succumbed to injuries.

The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Steven Shawn Trafford of Iowa.  An autopsy is scheduled next week to determine the exact cause of death.

The “Sheriff’s Critical Incident Team” (SCIT) has been activated due to the circumstances. The “SCIT” is comprised of detectives from Lawrence, Christian, Webster and Greene County to provide transparency to the public.
