SCAM ALERT – IRS Text Message Scams
The Taney County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to stay alert and protect themselves from scams. Recently, there have been reports of individuals receiving text messages claiming to be from the IRS, either stating that money is owed or that you are entitled to a refund.
Remember:
The IRS will never contact you via text message, email, or social media.
They will not threaten you with arrest, demand immediate payment, or ask for personal information like your Social Security number or bank details via text.
Do not click on any links or respond to suspicious messages.
Tips to Stay Safe:
• Don’t share personal or financial info via text or over the phone.
• If in doubt, contact the IRS directly through their official website or phone number.
• Report scams to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
Stay vigilant, Taney County – let’s keep our community safe from fraud!
